I studied art history at the University of Maryland, receiving a PhD in the field of seventeenth-century northern Baroque painting. I also worked a number of years at the National Gallery of Art and Walters Art Gallery, which has fueled my long-standing interest in museums and their curious place in present culture, a position made precarious by pervasive technology that just may offer these institutions new leases on life. Mostly I like to meet people doing interesting things, talking with them and making all sorts of connections that can improve their work, research, teaching.
